Itinerary

Your 3 days Marrakech to Merzouga will begin with an 8 a.m. pick-up from your riad or other Marrakech location. Passing through the landscapes of the High Atlas via the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, which is 2260 meters (7415 feet) above sea level, you will soon leave the city behind. Multiple breaks will be made en route to visit enchanting Berber villages.

This fortified village of Ait Ben-Haddou is a prime example of Moroccan architecture. The Kasbah has been featured in a number of well-known films filmed in Morocco, including “Kingdom of Heaven” in 2005, “Babel” in 2006, “Prince of Persia” in 2010, “Game of Thrones” in 2012, and “David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet” in 2020. You will have sufficient opportunity to explore the interior of this ancient Kasbah.

After lunch, we will proceed south along the road of 1000 Kasbahs to the Dades Gorges via Ouarzazate, Skoura, and Kalaat M’Gouna’s rose valley. If we still have time when we arrive at the Gorges in the evening, we will travel to the incredible rock formations known as the monkey fingers. We will visit it the following day. Dinner and accommodation in a hotel.

The second day of your 3 days desert tour from marrakech will begin with a delectable breakfast, followed by travel to Tinghir, where we’ll stop at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking charming Berber villages and a palm-filled oasis. In close proximity to this location, there is a 300-meter-tall canyon called Toudgha Gorge; here, we will take a walk alongside this canyon.

Later in the afternoon, when we reach Merzouga, you’ll go Sahara camel trekking across the Erg Chebbi dunes. During the trek, you will pause on a high dune to watch the sunset over Erg Chebbi’s golden dunes. Then continue riding your camel to your camp, where you will be welcomed with a cup of tea. Then, enjoy some leisure time to chill out. After a delectable Moroccan meal, you will sit around a campfire with Berbers playing drums and telling tales beneath a starry sky. Spend the night in your private tent.

Today, it is highly recommended to rise early in order to view the sunrise from the close high dune. After a tasty breakfast, you will have the option of departing the camp by camel or 4*4 vehicle. Then, return to Marrakech by car. However, this time via the Agdez Valley, the longest in Morocco (1100 kilometers).

Feel free to request a stop whenever you desire. When we arrive in Ouarzazate, we will stop in front of the historical monument “Taourirt Kasbah” for photographs. You will have lunch here before traveling via the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech. This 3 Days Tour Marrakech to Merzouga Desert tour concludes with drop-off at your accommodation.

Faqs

We recommend booking at least 3 to 4 months in advance if your travel falls during peak season (Spring/Autumn), especially if you want to secure the best desert camps and specific Riad accommodations.

Yes, absolutely! Every tour is private, allowing you to fully customize your itinerary. Whether you prefer more time in the desert or wish to visit the Atlantic coast before returning, we can tailor the route to your interests.

The most popular desert tours are 3 to 4 days. The 3-day tour is the minimum needed to reach the major Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga and return comfortably to Marrakech. Shorter tours often go to Zagora, which has smaller dunes.

Our drivers will drop you off at the nearest accessible point to your Riad/hotel (as cars are restricted inside the medina). We recommend using an official guide or your Riad staff for initial navigation assistance within the city walls.

While rare, snow can occasionally affect the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260m) in winter. Our drivers are experienced in mountain driving and will always prioritize your safety, adjusting the route or timing if needed.

Absolutely. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc.) at the time of booking, and we will ensure the hotels and desert camps are prepared for your needs.

Most standard tours focus on the Desert and Imperial Cities (like Fez). However, you can easily customize your tour to include coastal towns like Essaouira or Agadir.
